Mega’s Internet Spades Tournaments are fast, easy to play, and based on Hoyle’s Two Player Spades Rules. Mega’s innovation is the conversion and adaptation of this game to the Internet in a way that is 100% US legal, thus allowing players such as yourself to match their playing scores against other players' scores for substantial tournament prizes.

THE CARDS:

  1. 52 card deck.
  2. Rank - Ace (high), K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
  3. Spades always trump.

STARTING THE GAME:

  1. Cards are shuffled, cut, and placed face down in the center of the table to form the stock.
  2. You will be presented with the top card from the Stock. If you want this card, it goes into your hand, then you will see the next card of the Stock which will be discarded to begin the Discard Pile. If you do not want the first card drawn from the Stock, discard it, and the next card will be put into your hand. This process continues until the entire Stock has been exhausted. You will then have built a hand of thirteen cards. You see half the deck before making your bid -- the 13 you are holding and the 13 discards.
  3. You are in control, without worrying about guessing what is in a partner’s hand or what they might do.

THE PLAY:

  1. All Rounds consists of 3 hands.
  2. A trick consists of a player leading with one card, followed by a card from the other player. Each trick is won by the highest trump (spade), or by the highest card of the suit led.
  3. Lead card can be any suit except Spades. Spades may not be led until they have been "broken" by a Spade discard on a previous trick, unless you have only spades left in your hand.
  4. You must always follow suit if possible. If you are unable to follow suit you may play any card you wish including trumping in with a Spade.
  5. After looking at and analyzing your cards, you will register your bid for the number of tricks you expect to win (out of thirteen possible).
  6. Players keep each trick they take, which when matched with their bid tallies their score for that hand.

SCORING:

  1. Your Bid and Score in each game is always kept for you on display in the lower portion of your screen.
  2. For each hand that you make or exceed your bid you will receive 10 points for each trick taken up to what you have bid. Plus you will receive 1 point for each trick in excess of your bid. (For example if you bid 7 tricks and take 9 tricks you would receive 72 points for that hand).
  3. If you receive more than 4 bags (excess tricks over your bid) in a Round you will be penalized 10 points for each bag (example: 6 bags = 60 penalty points). There is no penalty for getting 4 bags or less.
  4. On hands that you fail to make your bid you will be penalized 10 points times your bid. (For example, if you bid 7 tricks and take 6 tricks your penalty for that hand would be -70 points).

THE RESPONDING PLAYER:

  • Playing across from you at your spades is a responding bot player
  • His score never counts, only yours.
  • He is a steady companion player that responds well to your and other players in the tournament, but will NEVER see your cards.
  • He always plays the same under similar game conditions.
  • In effect, each player is playing the same opponent, and each players score in every tournament is then simply ranked against those of others playing in that tournament.
